WHAT:
The Drew Valley Civic Association (DVCA) is a volunteer organization that affirms a strong belief in the idea of self-determination through democratic means by ensuring that every member of the Association be allowed to participate in the decisions that affect his or her life and the neighborhood in which they live. WHO:
The DVCA is comprised of a group of Drew Valley residents who voluntarily work together to serve the best interests of the greatest number of neighbors. It is structured as follows:
- Executive Committee: Four elected officers who are responsible for the operation and management of the Association. The officers are:
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Board of Directors: Seven elected members who are responsible for monitoring the actions and decisions of the Executive Committee and for making suggestions for improvement to the Executive Committee and the general membership.
- Committees: This is where the real work of the Association takes place. Neighbors serve on a volunteer basis to address issues that they feel are important to everyone. There are two types of committees:
- Administrative – These committees and volunteers ensure that the Association runs well and that it provides the infrastructure to support the Mission-related committees. Examples include:
- Mission – These committees and volunteers work together to actualize neighborhood goals that improve the quality of life for all residents. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Crime and Safety
- Drew Valley Road/Buford Highway Intersection Study and Advocacy
- Enhancements
- Schools
- Services
- Social
- Zoning
WHY:
The purposes of the Association is to unite the people of the neighborhood and to maintain and enhance the quality of life in the area through an organization concerned with the common issues; to provide a means for discussions and solutions of such issues; and to provide a mechanism to unite and activate neighbors quickly and efficiently.
HISTORY:
The DVCA has been a neighborhood institution for over a quarter century. Over the past several months there has been a concerted effort to expand the DVCA imprint as an active and integral part of our neighborhood.
