The Drew Valley neighborhood is a quiet, tucked away, family-friendly, in-town neighborhood of approximately 710 homes. It was part of the Brookhaven community of unincorporated Dekalb County before Brookhaven became an independent incorporated city. The neighborhood is heavily-wooded, the lots tend to be a bit larger than most in-town communities, and many properties have creeks. Drew Valley residents enjoy the convenience of being “inside the perimeter” of I-285 with easy access to the Brookhaven Marta Station (NE8) and I-85, GA-400, and Peachtree Dekalb Airport.
The neighborhood is the site of what was once a wilderness between the Creek and Cherokee nations. In 1954 development of Drew Valley was started in conjunction with its “sister” subdivision of Wawona Forest. The original homes were modest in size and amenities but generally well constructed. The community was part of the post-WWII housing boom intended to provide quality housing for workers of the GM Doraville plant. While some of the homes retain their original construction, many owners have added new additions and enhancements to their homes. After Brookhaven was recognized as a city in 2012 the rate of replacement increased. Many original homes have been replaced with larger homes. The community enjoys a nice mixture of affordable starter homes, renovated originals, and new housing stock. Property in the community tends to sell quickly yet there remains a friendly, community-centric vibe that appeals to younger families that have been attracted by the recently realigned school system that places Drew Valley in a highly rated network of schools.
